Mike Healey has been an obsessive music lover since he grew tall enough to reach his dad's record player. Through orchestras, bands and samplers, he has been playing and making music since he was 8. Eventually, his passion for the likes of Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, Aphex Twin, & Underworld drew him more and more towards producing electronic music. Mike’s music has an original and unusual sound which the self-taught Mike puts down to 'not knowing how to use any of my equipment properly', and has enjoyed praise and support from top DJs, producers and journalists alike. His 2005 Ongaku EP, released on Sensei, was picked up by top names such as Dave Clarke, Cass & Ralph Lawson. Ongaku also received high praise from DJ magazine's highly respected Richard Brophy who described Mike as "a name to watch" and "an adventurous producer who stands out from the crowd". As a DJ, Mike came runner-up in IDJ magazine's dj comp, with a 22 track mix CD which defied pigeonholes by blending hip hop, drum & bass, breaks, house and techno, epitomising Mike's firm belief that music should be experienced as a whole, regardless of genre, beats, tempos or other distinctions. He has played at clubs such as Turnmills, with DJs such as Mr C, James Talk and Pure Science. He has also clocked up several Radio 1 appearances, including an interview on Fergie's Saturday night show for his OneforOne music unsigned track of the week 'This One's Gonna' (since released on New Era) as well as repeated plays of his collaborations with the widely respected Dave Robertson. These latter tunes have enjoyed healthy support from the likes of Paul Woolford, James Zabiela, Funk D'Void & Ben Watt as well as a spot in Nic Fanciulli's Essential mix for BBC Radio 1 and a play from the Trophy Twins on their Saturday show. More recent tunes have enjoyed radio support from Carl Cox on Kiss FM (All We Need) as well as featuring in charts from Deep Dish and Gus Gus. Mike is currently hard at it on one or two personal projects, a collaboration for Cubism with Mark Gwinnett and a number of remixes for both Cubism and Evasive Records. Cubism already has three EPs signed to the label with the first of these, ‘Push It’ dropping in December 2008. Expect to hear a lot more from this talented producer.
